Montpellier (France) – Symposium “Pastoralism: Shared Perspectives for the Future”

The UMT Pastoralisme and the Entente Interdépartementale des Causses et Cévennes are organizing a national seminar in Montpellier in March 2026.

This seminar aims to identify levers to ensure the sustainability or redeployment of pastoral practices that address current societal, ecological, and socio-economic challenges. The sharing of stakeholders’ testimonies and research findings from a range of disciplines will help analyze and discuss the means and options for embedding this heritage into the future, both in mountain and lowland territories.

This seminar therefore aims to become a key moment of collective mobilization to reflect on the future of pastoralism in the face of contemporary challenges, within a framework of co-constructing knowledge and promoting local and international initiatives.
